Diamond Jewelry Trends for 2010

By Sarah Harris

We have a hot year in jewelry for 2010!

This year’s theme seems to say “look at me!” Warm, glowing colors, on big, chunky pieces seem to be the basic idea behind the trends this year. Think big; statement jewelry, bold, and says something about the wearer.

Take a look at some of the trends for diamond jewelry:

  • Colored Diamonds – This year diamonds are trending to the more expensive colored diamonds to show a bit of flare and personality. They are diamonds after all, which means you get the color of other gemstones with the sparkle, beauty, and clarity of a diamond. The colors that are really trending this year are warm tones; yellows, reds, oranges
  • Yellow Gold – Yellow gold is on its way back into fashion after a long run of silver, white gold, and platinum. That means yellow gold settings are going to be the thing for diamond jewelry. This makes sense, though – yellow gold is the perfect metal for those warm tones and colored diamonds.
  • Chandelier Earrings – What a beautiful showcase for diamond jewelry. Chandeliers are coming back and are flashy, feminine, and glamorous… Not to mention sparkles like crazy.

  • Bangles – Jeweled cuffed bangles are hot this year. The chunkier the better, in all those warm tones we talked about. Think warm woods and resins interspersed with colored diamonds and gold scrollwork. Think charm bracelets with all the different textures of the charms.
  • Hoop Earrings – Hoops of all kinds are back in… Wires with diamond drops, plain wires, it’s all back with an emphasis on yellow gold.
  • Brooches – Since 2010 seems to be a really chunky, bold year in jewelry, brooches are ready to make a comeback. Great on coats, sweaters, accessories to scarves, or even on hats, their chunky nature lends them to this year’s jewelry collections.
  • Layering – Taking the big look using smaller pieces, one trend is layering. Layering necklaces and bracelets with different textures, but same color scheme is really big this year. For example, a diamond pendant necklace can be layered around the wrist for a new look.
  • Celestial Themes – Stars and moons are making a comeback. What makes a better star than a diamond?
